Barcelona have just appointed Hansi Flick and the new manager is very fond of midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Barca refused to sell Frenkie de Jong last summer despite heavy interest from teams like Manchester United but the club’s financial situation has worsened and as per The Athletic, the Catalans need to bring in at least €130 million if they wish to make new signings this summer, free agents or otherwise.

The club is trying to pull several levers but in case that does not happen then Barca will have to offload some important players and FDJ is at the top of the list alongside the likes of Ronald Araujo and Lewandowski.

De Jong’s market value is €70 million and his contract expires in 2026 so Barcelona can easily quote around €90-95 million for the ex-Ajax man and that money will go a long way in helping Barca reduce their financial burden.

Which club is likely to sign Frenkie de Jong in case he is allowed to leave?

Frenkie de Jong has been targeted by Man United for two years and if he is up for sale then the Red Devils will queue up once again. Apart from United, Arsenal have also been linked with the Dutch international and in recent months, even Manchester City are said to be monitoring the situation.

FDJ will want to play in Champions League football so it will be very hard for Man United to convince him to move to Old Trafford and even Manchester City will struggle to sign him because Pep has the world-class Rodri in his side. City are going to sell Kalvin Phillips but we doubt if De Jong wants to fight with Rodri for a regular starting position.

Arsenal might be the perfect destination for Frenkie de Jong because Thomas Partey is leaving and even Jorginho’s time at the club is limited. In such a scenario, De Jong can very easily slot in alongside the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in midfield.

The 27-year-old has no plans to leave Barcelona at the moment and Hansi Flick’s belief in him will give the midfielder even more confidence but if Barcelona cannot bring in adequate money from the Barca Studio and the Nike deals then they will definitely start listening to offers for Frenkie de Jong.

Arsenal have the finances to spend €90-100 million for De Jong but if he is really up for sale then Erik ten Hag won’t mind breaking the bank for the one player who’s been at the top of his transfer wishlist since day one.
