Harry Kane playing for England Bayern Munich

Harry Kane has been the player who has been doing all the goalscoring work for Spurs this season but at the same time, the forward has also been prone to multiple injuries.

His latest one came during the 2-2 draw vs Everton last week and since then he has been on the sidelines. First, he missed the midweek game vs Southampton with the manager stating that he was yet to return to training with the first-team squad.

The interim boss had said on Wednesday: “Harry didn’t train today and it’s a case of taking it day by day. We’re still not sure about the weekend yet, but what we do know is that Harry is working extremely hard to get over this injury.

“He’s a top professional and will be doing all he can to get fit as soon as possible. There is no time scale on it but, hopefully, he won’t be out for too long.”

And now as Spurs prepare to face Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, the 29-year-old boss has hinted that Harry Kane might be an absentee for this encounter as well.

In his pre-match press conference, Mason admitted: “It’s still the same. He wasn’t with the group today, and we’ll see how he is tomorrow. Progress? Yes, definite progress.

“Like I said all along, Harry is probably one of the most professional footballers in the world, and there will be no doubt that he’ll be doing absolutely everything to get this injury gone as soon as possible.”

Harry Kane has netted 21 and assisted 13 goals in the Premier League so far this season and he would have undoubtedly been the biggest threat to City’s trophy hopes on Sunday.

But now that Kane is expected to miss out, Pep Guardiola can breathe a big sigh of relief especially since his own centre-back John Stones is unavailable due to suspension.

With Harry Kane unlikely to feature, Ryan Mason will have to name someone like Lucas Moura or Son up front meaning Gareth Bale will get the opportunity to start.
