Spurs have had a roller coaster ride in the previous few weeks and Antonio Conte has admitted that winning in Europe is currently easier than winning in England.

Tottenham take on Middlesbrough in the FA Cup this week and before the midweek clash, Conte has made some candid comments about his team’s topsy turvy form this year.

“To win trophies in England, as I said before, is very difficult,” he told reporters at Monday’s pre-match news conference. “At the moment it’s easier to win in Europe than England.

“When you start to play the quarter-final, semi-final, final, you have to fight against a top, top team that probably could play the final of the Champions League. It’s important to continue to go through in this trophy.

“This happened in the EFL Cup, don’t underestimate the semi-final Tottenham reached, because the final was Chelsea versus Liverpool, so to reach the semi-final was a good result for Tottenham.

“This has to be a boost to push us to improve the level, to be competitive, to try to meet a trophy as soon as possible, because if I speak about the future, you don’t understand the time that we need.

“It’ll be important to improve the level and fight to win a trophy. But I repeat, to win a trophy now is very difficult.”

Has Antonio Conte given up hopes of a Spurs revival?

Conte started the 2021/22 season with a lot of fire and grit and at one point Spurs were the favourites to secure the final Champions League spot. But in the previous few weeks, Tottenham have properly imploded, losing to the likes of Southampton, Wolves and even Burnley.

Spurs still have a great chance at finishing in the top four but with each passing day, Antonio Conte seems to be losing hope. Conte is visibly upset at the board for the lack of transfer funds and it looks like the Italian is under no pressure to grab a Champions League spot.

If Tottenham can finish in the top four then well and good but if the Lilywhites cannot secure a UCL spot then Conte will pack his bags and leave immediately.

Antonio Conte left Inter last summer only because the Serie A side were not ready to spend the big bucks and if Spurs are also walking in the same path then the manager will surely lose hope to fight for and alongside his players.
