Bengaluru FC slumped to their second straight defeat of the season as they are humbled by Churchill Brothers in Goa. It was a terrible day at the office for the Blues as they were down to ten men, lost the match 2-1. But most importantly they might just have slipped up on their chance to defend their title.
A game of actions:
Bengaluru started the match well as skipper Sunil Chhetri put them in the lead in the 22nd minute. But slowly and steadily Churchill brought themselves back into the match. They equalised 10 minutes later through Anthony Wolfe.
The second half began with a frantic pace and it was Churchill who eventually capitalised thanks to Lyngdoh. He came up with a moment of brilliance to put the home team in front. During the dying stages of the game, John Johnson was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Richard Costa. And eventually, Churchill held on to register their first victory of the season.
Is the title lost?
Bengaluru will surely have to pull up their socks if they are to muster up any sort of challenge to protect their trophy. But one has to feel that the chance to win the title again might well and truly be gone. With a league so short, losing two matches back to back can prove very costly. All Bengaluru can now do is win all their remaining matches and hope that their rivals slip up. Bengaluru will have no time to sit back and sulk on their defeats as next they have a very crucial game against Wihdat for the AFC Champions League qualifiers.
