England and Belgium take on each other during the final Group G game on Thursday but as things stand Gareth Southgate’s side losing this encounter could be a blessing in disguise for the Three Lions.

Both England and Belgium have secured qualification to the Round of 16 and now the final game will decide who tops the group and stamps their authority.

Roberto Martinez, as well as Gareth Southgate, are expected to make a couple of changes to their first eleven on Thursday and Belgium trumping England looks very much a possibility – and the England fans should hope that this happens.

Let us explain.

Scenario 1:

If England manage to top Group G then they will take on the winner of the Brazil vs Mexico game which should be won be Neymar and co – if there’s not a major catastrophe.

So, first the Three Lions have to overcome the Brazil(or Mexico) test in the quarter-finals and then they will have to face the winner of the other quarter-final.

Uruguay take on Portugal while Argentina take on France in their respective round of 16 games and to be very honest whoever wins and moves ahead will be a tough competition for England in the semis.

Scenario 2:

If England are runners-up in Group G then they should, should, have an easier route to the finals.

Coming second in Group G would mean that Gareth Southgate’s side will have to face either Sweden or Switzerland in the quarter-final and then either Spain, Russia, Croatia or Demark.

In all honesty, only Spain look to be the only team who can pose a real threat to England – atleast on paper.

Though these scenarios might look very simple in theory but out on the pitch it could be a very different ball-game. But one thing is for sure if England top the group then they will have to go through two acid major tests in order to reach the finals.
