West Ham United were en route to pick up a superb win against Arsenal but the Gunners managed to stage a heroic comeback to walk out of the London Stadium with a point.

The Hammers took a 3-0 lead by the 32nd minute of the game and from there onwards, it was supposed to be a regulation win for David Moyes’ side. But, the Arsenal players did not give up hope and thanks to two own-goals and an effort from Lacazette on target, Mikel Arteta’s men managed to remain in the top half of the Premier League table.

Speaking to the club’s official sources, midfielder Thomas Partey went on to explain after the match how West Ham United managed to catch them off-guard and then how they managed to stage a comeback.

“I think we could have done better from the beginning,” he told Arsenal.com. “They dominated from the beginning and we were completely lost.

“I think they came out very strong. They overloaded us on the outside and they are strong with crossing. We allowed them too much time with the crossing and that hurt us a lot. Second half, we made sure we blocked all the crosses. From there we started to dominate.

“We stuck to our plan. We know how to hurt them, we went all-out and everybody was fighting as a team. I think the spirit was high after we conceded three goals. From there, we started to give our all. But we have to start as we ended, in both halves.

“I think we have to learn from all these mistakes, we have to know when we have to go out strong, when we have to dominate from the beginning. It’s important in the Premier League to start winning from the beginning to be in the top. You have to start good and end well.”

The two own-goals helped Arsenal build a solid platform for the final push in the last 30-odd minutes and this draw will go a long way in helping Arsenal build confidence for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal really cranked up the heat in the second half of the match and by the end of the game, they had managed to register 18 attempts which was almost unthinkable with how they were playing during the first 30 minutes of the match.

While the two dropped points will be a rude wakeup call for the Gunners defenders but the frontmen can really take pride from their performances on Sunday night and a few of them have gone a long way in proving their worth to the manager.

Things are not going to get any easier for Arsenal from here on as they will have to face Liverpool right after the break. And after this dismal defensive performance, Arteta will know exactly what to upon with his players before the reigning champions come to town.
