Jose Mourinho Spurs Premier League

Jose Mourinho managed to hold his former side to a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday night meaning the Lilywhites are still in the race for a top-four finish.

Man United went into this Premier League encounter as the favourites to pick up all three points but the Portuguese manager used his tried and tested technique to stop Manchester United from moving further away from them on the league table.

And speaking after the match, Jose Mourinho explained how he exploited Manchester United’s major weakness in order to hold them to just a draw.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mourinho said, as reported: “We analyse United [before the game] but I don’t think it’s for us to speak about them.

“I’ll just say that I think we gave them what I think they are not very good at, which was to given them the opportunity to have the ball and to play in organised attack.

“I think they are much more dangerous in counter-attack situations. They have fast people in attack and they can be really dangerous, but we managed to control that in an amazing way.

“I can even remember when the game was broken in the end where Marcus Rashford had a long ball [from Pogba] in the space and this kind of action but we controlled him very, very well.

“We wanted to be dangerous in counter-attacks but we knew that would be difficult for 90 minutes.”

Man United have massive pace upfront but Jose Mourinho made sure that his midfielders and defenders denied Rashford and co the chance to get back behind them.

And true to Mourinho’s words, the visiting side looked lacklustre and out of ideas when trying to build an attack from the backline.

Yes, Manchester United are one of the best counter-attacking sides in English football right now but Jose Mourinho’s tactics have made it clear that Solskjaer still needs to do a lot of work if he wishes to compete against teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.
