How Real Madrid are expected to line up vs Liverpool: Asensio or Valverde in the side?

Real Madrid made a really poor start to the 2020-21 season but they have somehow managed to get their act together and could end the season with multiple silverwares.

Zidane’s men beat Barcelona in the El Classico this weekend and now they will look to progress to the next round of the Champions League by beating Liverpool at Anfield.

Real Madrid go into the second leg with a two-goal advantage but Liverpool’s crucial away goal means the tie could swing either way this week. Madrid have won their last 4 matches against Liverpool in all competitions which will give them a lot of positivity but Zidane’s men will have to be extra cautious since they will be playing at Anfield.

The Madrid boss has a few big injures to deal with going into this match but all of these players were absent for the first leg as well. So we don’t think setting up a strong-enough side should be too much of a worry for the Los Blancos manager.

Real Madrid team news vs Liverpool:

Sergio Ramos remains sidelined with an injury while Raphael Varane will also miss the second leg. This is a setback in terms of selection but the pairing of Nacho and Eder Militao has done really well in central defence.

These two played in the first leg and then started in the 2-1 win against Barcelona as well. So, it’s safe to say that Zidane will keep them in the line-up on Wednesday.

The backline should remain unchanged from the last two matches with Vazquez playing in at right-back and Mendy operating on the other side of the pitch.

Casemiro picked up a red card against Barcelona but that does not affect his selection for the Liverpool game. The Brazilian will start in defensive midfield with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric playing a bit further up front. Kroos and Modric ran the show in the first leg and if they can control the pace of the game this week as well then Real Madrid will be cruising through to the next round.

Federico Valverde got a start during the weekend but we are sure that Asensio will come back into the side for the Liverpool game, playing as the right winger at Anfield.

Eden Hazard has been on the brink of being fully fit but we are not sure if he will be ready for the second leg or not. Getting him back will be a massive boost for Zinedine Zidane but the manager will not be sweating too much since Vinicius Jr has been in such fine form.

Karim Benzema will be leading the line for Real Madrid on Wednesday.

How Real Madrid could line-up at Anfield:

Predicted Starting XI: Courtois; Vazquez, Militao, Nacho, Mendy; Casemiro, Modric, Toni Kroos; Asensio, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
