Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had his doubters ever since he was appointed the permanent manager of Man United back in 2019 but right now he’s proving everyone wrong by making the Red Devils play some of their finest football in the post-Ferguson era.
The Man United manager has obviously been applauded for the signing of Bruno Fernandes – a player who has turned around the fortunes of the team over the past year but according to a latest report, the often-mocked manager has been doing some really tedious work behind the scenes as well.
According to The Athletic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has changed his backroom staff, bringing in new analytics who are helping the players punch above their weight. Also, the Norwegian has chosen to bring club legends into the dressing rooms so that the players can get proper motivation.
The Daily Mail cites The Athletic saying: “Solskjaer has overhauled his backroom staff and hired head of data Andrew Meredith – who feeds information to coaches and players – while head of performance Richard Hawkins analyses the group from a physical perspective.
“Martyn Pert, who has been at United since last season, specialises in keeping players who aren’t playing fit and ensuring they are ready when called upon.
“And in addition to securing experts on the training ground, he’s also been keen to ensure there are people present who know the club inside out.
“Former midfielder Keane – often critical of the club during his role as a pundit on Sky Sports – has come in to speak to the youngsters about their experience at Old Trafford, as has Wales boss Ryan Giggs.”
Amidst all this overhaul, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also brought in ex-United player Darren Fletcher as a first-team coach at Manchester United.
Solskjaer said of the appointment: “Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player.
“He is at the start of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the pitch along with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.”
Ever since his tactical disaster against RB Leipzig back in December, the Man United boss has upped his skill set and with each passing game Solskjaer is revealing a new card from under his sleeve.
The strategic breakdown of Leeds United and the shutting down of Aston Villa’s attack are proof that Ferguson’s disciple of no amateur manager and he has what it takes to bring back the Premier League title at Old Trafford.
