Southampton have been in mixed form in the previous few months and next up, they take on Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Saints are currently 15th on the Premier League table but they still have an outside chance at getting into the top ten of the table. They are just three points away from the 10th spot and at least on paper, Hassenhuttl’s side can still climb up the ladder. Obviously, several combinations of results will have to go their way but it’s definitely not impossible.

This feat will be easier said than done because Southampton have won just one out of their last five matches and to make things worse, they have failed to win their last five away matches in the league. Southampton and Brentford are safe from the clutches of relegation so they have nothing much to play for this weekend. Because nothing much is on the line, there’s a big chance that this match could be a boring and cagey affair.

Saints team news vs Brentford:

The manager has a more or less fully fit squad to choose from but he is not going to make wholesale changes to his starting lineup.

The backline should remain the same from the Crystal Palace game with Salisu and Bednarek playing in central defence and Perraud along with Walker-Peters operating as the two full-backs.

Romeu scored Southampton’s only goal against Crystal Palace while Ward-Prowse provided the assist and in truth, these two were the only standout players in that loss.

Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi both came off the bench last weekend but the pair will come back into the starting line up when Southampton head to Brentford.

Armando Broja has suddenly hit a rough patch of form as he’s scored only one goal in his last 13 outings so Hassenhuttl is likely to keep him on the bench once again. Che Adams and Shane Long will start up front for Southampton.

Southampton predicted line up vs Brentford:

Predicted XI(4-4-2): Forster; Walker-Peters, Salisu, Bednarek, Perraud; Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Stuart Armstrong, Elyounoussi; Che Adams, Shane Long.
