Timo Werner Spurs Premier League EPL

Despite a great previous career in Germany, Timo Werner has been a major flop for Chelsea this season but it seems like new manager Thomas Tuchel knows exactly how to use him.

Werner was one of the marquee signings of the summer but so far he’s scored just four goals in 20 Premier League games and with each passing game, his impact seems to be diminishing.

But speaking to the press, manager Thomas Tuchel has claimed that the biggest asset for Timo Werner is his blistering pace, which needs to be put to good use.

“He’s (Werner) totally into it and he gives everything. Every striker in the world is sensitive and nothing helps more than goals,” Tuchel said, as reported.

“As long as he has the impact and tries everything and works like he worked against Burnley, we will support him.

“We missed some chances to use him in counter-attacks. This is his absolute strength with his pure speed.

“So we have to improve at bringing him into situations where he can be decisive for us, and at the same time he has to be confident to play, but its not something you can demand.”

At RB Leipzig, Timo Werner was tearing apart opponent players with this speed during quick-fire counter-attacks but under Lampard, Chelsea players a totally different brand of football.

Also, this season, the German has mostly played on the left wing for the Blues, something which has also hampered his style of play to a large extent.

We don’t know how Werner’s career will pan out but his performance against Spurs might give us a good indication as to whether Tuchel wants him to play a more composed game or torment defenders with his sheer pace.
