Arsenal have been one of the major spenders in the Premier League this summer but they have splashed money on all the wrong sort of deals.

From paying an enormous fee for Ben White to signing Aaron Ramsdale, the North London side are making all sorts of wrong noises in the transfer market.

While the fans cannot seem to understand why their club are spending so much money on second-fiddle players, Micah Richards has revealed that Arsenal just cannot attract the top-level players right now.

He said on BBC Radio, as quoted: “At this moment, Arsenal can’t attract the top, top players, because players want to go to the better performing teams at this moment in time.

“When you say they’ve spent a lot of money, they’re buying second-tier players, or players with good potential who could become that.

“You should think that the manager’s got some input in the players that they’re getting.

“But I just think with Arsenal now, they’ve got themselves in such a rut, they’ve done a couple of panic buys.

“They signed [Pierre-Emerick] Aubamayeng to his new contract and he’s not done much since that, and then it’s like everyone’s gone forwards and they’ve stayed still.

“They’ve been trying to control the finances, and gone out and spent £132million. No disrespect, Ramsdale’s had three relegations in his career.

“They’re signing for the future, it’s almost as if they’ve conceded they’re not going to get world-class players.

“Unfortunately, buying young players is going to cost Arteta his job because he’s not going to be able to do the business.”

Richards has hit the nail in the head in terms of Arsenal’s transfer strategy this summer.

Not only are Arsenal spending way too much money on all the unnecessary departments but at the same time, no major club is interested in signing their current misfits.

The North London side are willing to sell players like Lacazette, Nketiah, Hector Bellerin and Willian but as of now, there are no real takers. And until Arsenal manage to get back into the Champions League, they have no other option but to rely on gamble signings to see them through.
