Here’s why Arsenal players have constantly failed to perform this season: A repeat vs Sheffield?

Arsenal have suffered as many as 12 defeats in the Premier League this season and some pundits feel the Gunners could see another slump against Sheffield United this season.

Just when the North London side seemed to rediscovering their form, they went down embarrassingly to Liverpool last weekend and if this was not enough then they were also held to a 1-1 draw by Slavia Prague in midweek.

And according to manager Mikel Arteta, a dip in confidence is one of the main reasons why his side have failed to string together a series of positive results throughout this campaign.

The manager said in his interview: “I’ve been a player and confidence is probably the biggest thing that any player needs when they step on that field, so he is not hesitant to make decisions, he knows exactly what to do and he can execute that because he knows things are going to go well for him.

“The surroundings of the individual are really important as well, what the collective is transmitting and bringing to the individual, that is why it is a collective sport. But with confidence you can sense it and it is key for any successful team.

“It is the way we talk to them[answering on his his team is trying to bring the confidence back], the way we train them, the way we transmit the messages we want to them.

“But every individual is different, how he approaches positive or negative criticism, what happens when he gives the ball away and they make an error, what is the reaction? That is down to the individual and we need to understand what the individual needs in these moments.”

Sheffield United are almost certain to go down to the Championship at the end of this season so ideally, they will be playing for their pride on Sunday.

And this could be the perfect match for Arsenal to boost their confidence ahead of a key Europa League match against Slavia Prague next week.

The North London side are not expected to get back into the top-four anytime this season but a handsome win vs the Blades might just help Arsenal go all the way in the Europa League.
