Is this why Chelsea aren’t likely to beat Man City in the Champions League final?

Man City will take on Chelsea in the Champions League final later this month and it’s safe to say that two of the best teams in Europe have managed to reach the finale.

Manchester City were always one of the favourites to go this far in the tournament but a couple of months ago, no one could have imagined that Chelsea will be able to beat teams like Real Madrid to get into the final.

New manager Thomas Tuchel has worked wonders with this Chelsea side and the Blues have already beaten Manchester City twice in the past couple of months. And many experts feel these two experiences should be enough for the London side to complete a hat-trick of wins against the newly crowned Premier League champions.

Chelsea are most likely the best team in England right now but pundit Ian Wright still feels that it’s Man City who are likely to come out on top in the Champions League final.

‘I’m really confused simply because of the amount of players who were missing for Manchester City in the last game,’ Wright said on the Wrighty’s House podcast, as quoted.

‘I like how ballsy Chelsea played, but will they do the same with De Bruyne, Mahrez and Gundogan playing? I just feel that this is it for Man City, they have to make it happen.

‘Whereas with Chelsea, we saw what happened with Frank Lampard and then Tuchel has come in and turned it around and, bang, they’re in the final.

‘They seem to be going into the final with a lot more confidence even though City are all-conquering. But I’m probably still going to go with Manchester City.

‘I think they have to get over the line to really rubberstamp the dominance they’ve had in the Premier League in the last few years. I think they will just get over the line.’

Both the times that Chelsea beat Manchester City, Pep Guardiola had chosen to rest a number of his first-team regulars. So, in reality, the Blues are yet to face the actual first XI of Man City.

And when the Blues defenders have to come against the likes of De Bruyne and Phil Foden, we are sure that it will be a totally different scenario. We are not saying that Man City will absolutely dominate Chelsea in the Champions League final but once Guardiola chooses his strongest starting line-up then automatically his side will be deemed the favourites to win in the final.
