Liverpool have finally ended their decades-old drought in order to pick up their maiden Premier League title this week.

The Reds had already wrapped up the season a couple of weeks ago and after the win against Chelsea at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s side were presented with the trophy.

Now the Liverpool players will undoubtedly be in a celebratory mood during the next couple of weeks but their manager has possibly started work on defending their league title next season.

Rumours have it that Liverpool might not be able to bring in star signings during the upcoming summer transfer window but according to Paul Merson, they definitely have what it takes to keep Manchester City at bay.

He wrote in his Daily Star column: “It’s shame Liverpool had to lift the Premier League trophy in front of an empty stadium at Anfield.

“I can remember the last time Liverpool won the title in 1990 because I was in the Arsenal side that did the same thing the following season.

“Back then you knew if you finished above Liverpool then you’d basically be champions. They were so dominant at that time.

“But I think their fans will definitely get the chance to celebrate a Premier League trophy presentation inside Anfield in the future because this won’t be the last time Liverpool win the title.

“I’d be surprised if they didn’t go on and do it again next season. Manchester City are a brilliant team, make no mistake and they can blow anyone away on their day.

“But Liverpool are more consistent. They can win games when they are not playing well and City haven’t been able to do that because their defence hasn’t been as good.”

Manchester City will finish second on the league table this season and going into the final matchweek, they have lost nine matches which is something we clearly do not expect from a Pep Guardiola side.

We are more than certain that the City boss will work tirelessly to get things back on track during the 2020-21 season meaning Liverpool will have even fewer chances of a slip-up.
