Here’s why Liverpool could drop points against Chelsea at Anfield: Too pessimistic?

Liverpool will welcome Chelsea at Anfield this week in the Premier League and the Reds will be looking to pick up their second win on the trot.

After suffering four consecutive losses in the Premier League, Liverpool finally managed to pick up a win this past weekend, beating Sheffield United 2-0, away from home.

And while some people feel these three points have given the much-needed confidence booster to Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of the Chelsea match but according to pundit Michael Owen, his former side might be in line to drop further points.

He wrote for BetVictor: “This one is arguably the pick of the midweek matches. Back at Anfield, Liverpool will be desperate to get on track after a string of poor results on home soil.

“They welcome a Chelsea side that will no doubt be cautious. If Thomas Tuchel sets up to play on the counter, I could see them causing Liverpool problems. However, if there’s one thing missing from this Chelsea side it’s a recognised number nine.

“With that in mind, I think this one will be tight. It’s a 1-1 draw for me.”

Liverpool’s form has really taken a dip in the past few weeks and after those four losses, the Reds are now sixth on the league table with 43 points.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have improved significantly under their new boss and one of the area which has seen the most advancement is the defensive line.

The Blues have really upped their defensive game under Thomas Tuchel and so far they have conceded only two goals in seven league matches.

Also, the likes of Giroud and Mason Mount have been in peak form in the past couple of weeks and given the number of defensive injuries that Liverpool are dealing with, we really don’t expect the home side to keep a clean sheet on Thursday.
