Barcelona have been linked with Joshua Kimmich for a really long time but it looks like the German midfielder is going to become a Manchester City player in the summer.
Bayern has understood that the midfielder is not going to sign a contract extension and as per Fabrizio Romano, the Bavarians are now ready to cash in on him, for the right transfer fee.
He has said: “Bayern will be open to consider big offers for Joshua Kimmich. At the moment talks between Bayern and Kimmich are at a total standby. Bayern are prepared to let him go in case of a big proposal.”
This is going to be great news, particularly for Hansi Flick but the manager will have to wait until 2025 if he wants to bring Joshua Kimmich to Camp Nou. As per SPORT, Barcelona’s poor financial condition is not going to allow them to sign Kimmich this summer which is why they want to wait until the end of the 24/25 season to land him as a free agent.
Will Bayern Munich wait until 2025 or will they sell Joshua Kimmich to Man City?
Bayern Munich made it clear since the start of 2024 that they are not going to risk losing Kimmich as a free agent next summer. And now that he has refused to put pen to paper, Bayern will be hoping that Manchester City are ready to pay €50-55 million for the midfielder.
Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Joshua Kimmich and the current Premier League champions won’t mind paying €50 million for the 29-year-old.
Not only will Barcelona fail to pay the transfer fee but they will also struggle to meet Kimmich’s salary demands of €10 million per year. The Catalans will be hoping that the German midfielder is going to snub Manchester City and wait one year to join Camp Nou but we don’t think even the player is willing to remain at Bayern for one more season, especially with a team like Manchester City interested in him.
Is Kimmich going to be a big miss for Barcelona?
Hansi Flick has seen Joshua Kimmich from close quarters which is a major reason why he wants him at Barcelona and his experience and leadership qualities would be very handy for Barcelona next season.
He’s been with Bayern since 2015 and has played close to 400 games across all competitions. The 29-year-old is primarily a central midfielder but he can also play as a right-back and this versatility is a major asset.
Kimmich has won 8 Bundesliga titles, 3 DFB Pokal and one UCL title with the Bavarians and this season, he has an xA of 9.97 with a passing accuracy of 91% and 72 chances created.
Apart from the incredible stats, Joshua Kimmich has vast amounts of experience playing at the top level and this will be the biggest miss for Barcelona if he was to join Manchester City.
Obviously, nothing has been fixed yet because Manchester City are yet to make any sort of formal move but if Barcelona are holing out to sign Joshua Kimmich as a free agent, no way that is happening.
