Mesut Ozil has rarely started a game for Arsenal this season especially under Unai Emery but many believe his situation will get better now that Mikel Arteta has taken charge of the Gunners.

So far during the 2019-20 season, the playmaker has played in only eight Premier League games and most of his minutes have come during the past month.

And now former manager Unai Emery has revealed why he chose not to use Mesut Ozil more regularly in his starting XIs during the current season.

Emery told BBC Sport[as reported]: “There are games in which you see Mesut’s brilliance, linking with the attack. But also I had to find players around him so he felt comfortable.

“Also the team needed to feel solid.

“And when you, little by little, have to build a team that is aggressive, intense, as well as structured for good pressure, we also had to find a space for Mesut.

“Ozil is a very important player if you can find a way to make it work with other players.

“He has talent that allows other players to be better, but when you want a bit more aggressive pressure he does not have the best qualities for that.”

Mesut Ozil will once again have to prove himself to an Arsenal manager but there’s a big possibility that the playmaker could be sold off during the January transfer window.

There had been a huge buzz that Unai Emery wanted the player out – even if that meant sending him out on a short-term loan deal.

And we feel that new manager Mikel Arteta will follow the same route as soon as the transfer window reopens.

The Gunners have a great set of forwards and the manager’s current focus is to strengthen the defence and the midfield areas. So by selling off Mesut Ozil, the club will be able to free up a large amount of their current wage bill.
