As per a recent report from COPE, Real Madrid have given up their chase of signing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich.

The report is suggesting that Real Madrid prefer to focus on the development of young players like Rafa Marín and Miguel Gutiérrez rather than go after the Canadian international during the upcoming window.

Alphonso Davies has one more year left on his current contract with Bayern and the left-back is reluctant to sign a new deal which means either the Bavarians will have to sell him at a discount at the end of this season or they will have to risk losing him for free next year.

Davies has been with Bayern’s senior team since 2019 and he’s played 194 games for the club. This season, he’s featured in 28 Bundesliga games, scoring one and assisting six goals.

Are Real Madrid really no longer interested in Alphonso Davies?

Alphonso Davies is currently valued at €60 million but with just one year remaining, the full-back could be bought for around €50 million in the coming months.

And there’s no way Real Madrid will give up the opportunity to sign a world-class 23-year-old defender for such a bargain price. They have saved a lot of money by landing Kylian Mbappe as a free agent so they can afford to splurge in the market and paying €50-55 million for a player like Alphonso Davies is not even a splurge.

The left-back is one of the best full-backs in Europe right now and Madrid won’t be a fool to give up the chase when they have come this close to landing him. Bayern Munich have not yet given up hopes of tying Alphonso Davies and unless the player has agreed to commit his future to his current side, Madrid won’t back off.

As of this week, there are still no reports of Davies holding positive talks with Bayern’s management.

Real Madrid currently have Ferland Mendy as their primary left-back option so an upgrade is very much required and it’s not always that a player like Alphonso Davies is available in the transfer market.

We firmly believe that Madrid’s interest in the left-back is still very much active and Ancelotti will want to bring him into the squad next season over players like Rafa Marín or Miguel Gutiérrez.
