Roberto Firmino was selected ahead of Diogo Jota as the main centre-forward against Chelsea on Saturday but his time on the pitch lasted for only 43 minutes.

Initially, it was thought that it was a tactical change since the Brazilian was playing very averagely. But now there are fears that Firmino might have sustained a hamstring injury.

And speaking after the match, the Liverpool manager has confirmed that the forward had indeed picked up an injury.

“Not really. I think Bobby probably had a muscle [injury]. I hope it’s not too big a problem,” Klopp told Sky Sports when asked if Firmino was fit or not.

The club’s official website has revealed that Firmino will undergo a scan to see if he has suffered a hamstring injury or not.

The official statement said: “Roberto Firmino will undergo a scan on a suspected hamstring injury sustained during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

“The Reds’ No.9 was forced off shortly before half-time of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Anfield.”

Personally, this will be a major setback for Roberto Firmino since this was his first start of the 2021/22 season but Jurgen Klopp will not be too worried right now.

Firstly, Liverpool go into the international break from here on so the forward has gotten some time to recover. And on top of that Diogo Jota has been in fine form in the first two games.

Liverpool looked much threatening once Jota replaced Roberto Firmino against Chelsea and we have a feeling that even if the Brazilian is fit and available right after the international break, Klopp is going to use Jota as the centre-forward in the first XI.
