Premier League side Arsenal FC could miss out on midfielder Houssem Aouar as a Champions League club has reportedly shown interest in him.

The Independent cites The Telegraph saying: “Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar as they seek to raise the funds required to bring him to the Premier League.

“According to The Telegraph, Aouar has been contacted by a club in the Champions League – something Arsenal cannot offer – who hope to secure a deal before the end of the window.

“While the name of the Champions League side remains unknown the club has sounded out the 22-year-old to see if he would be interested in a move and are now preparing a late offer, with Lyon demanding a £54million asking price.”

Will Houssem Aouar end up at Arsenal?

Clubs like Juventus and Bayern Munich have previously been linked with Houssem Aouar and if the 22-year-old is keen to play in the European top division during the current season then there’s very little Arsenal can do about it.

The Gunners have been trying really hard to get the Lyon man on board but there have been a number of obstacles on the way.

Firstly, the North London side have been struggling to fund the transfer due to their limited transfer budget and now the introduction of a UCL club makes things even harder.

The report does not mention how far the Champions League club have moved with their interest so Arsenal still have a ray of hope in wrapping up the deal for Houssem Aouar.

But having said that, if the interest from the UCL club is actually real then the French U21 international might want to put the move to Arsenal on hold in order to test these new waters.

Houssem Aouar has three more years left on his current deal with Lyon so the Ligue 1 club are in hurry to sell him off.
