Timo Werner to Chelsea EPL

Chelsea have finally managed to get their hands on RB Leipzig’s 24-year-old centre-forward Timo Werner and the official announcement of the deal was made last week.

The Blues announced: “Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Timo Werner.

“The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Blues and will remain at the German club for the rest of the Bundesliga season. He will link up with his new team-mates in July, subject to passing a medical examination.”

And now speaking about his latest acquisition, Frank Lampard has tried to explain how the Blues managed to nick the signing despite Liverpool being the firm favourites to sign Timo Werner during the summer.

Lampard said, as per Sky Sports: “He’s clearly a player that we liked. I’ve certainly followed him for a long time myself individually just because he’s a talented player.

“As a club, we went for him and he will certainly strengthen us, in my opinion. He’s hugely talented, had a fantastic season this year but before that as well.

“Timo Werner is a signing who will improve us. I’m certainly very excited to have him playing for Chelsea and we look forward to having him.

“We worked as hard as we could to sign him. I had good conversations with him personally where he hopefully understands what I want to do here with the club in terms of how we work, how we play.

“It seems to have come across as a really exciting project for him because he obviously had some very good options so we’re happy with that. We’re just pleased that Timo has decided to come to us.”

Everyone was certain that Liverpool were the only club who would be able to sign Timo Werner due to the German’s ambition of playing under Jurgen Klopp.

But clearly, Liverpool chose not to make a move for the centre-forward despite his lucrative release clause. And most pundits think the Reds have no intentions of spending too much money this time around.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have money to spare and the Blues management have put that large kitty to perfect use by signing Hakim Ziyech and now Timo Werner.
