Manchester United have finally parted ways with Marcus Rashford and the England international has opted to join Aston Villa despite interest from several other clubs.
Villa have signed Rashford on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
The 27-year-old had been frozen out by Ruben Amorim, who was reportedly unconvinced by his commitment in training. The forward hasn’t played for Man United in 2025 and now, this move to Aston Villa gives a new lease of life to the 27-year-old.
Aston Villa sign Marco Asensio from PSG:
In a last-minute transfer coup, Aston Villa have also secured the signing of Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Premier League club will reportedly cover the Spanish winger’s wages, but the deal does not include an option for a permanent transfer.
How will Aston Villa’s attack look with Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio?
Alongside Asensio, Villa have also signed Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for around €25 million.
Malen has already made two appearances for Villa, but now, Asensio is expected to be the first-choice right-winger. The Spaniard has contributed six goals in 12 Ligue 1 appearances this season, and if he maintains that form in England, he can be a key asset for Unai Emery.
Meanwhile, John Duran’s €77 million move to the Saudi Pro League has solidified Ollie Watkins as Villa’s undisputed role in the side. Watkins was close to joining Arsenal, but the club successfully held onto him.
On the left wing, Rashford’s arrival means Jacob Ramsey, who has been playing at left wing, will vacate the position. Rashford, however, has struggled for form this season, scoring just four league goals, and he will need to prove himself rather quickly.
It’s the end of the road for Rashford at Manchester United which makes his loan spell at Villa Park very crucial for his future. If he delivers strong performances, he will attract interest from top European clubs in the summer.
For now, both Asensio and Rashford are expected to be automatic starters, and with Villa in contention for a top-four finish, their contributions in the coming weeks could be decisive in helping the club retain Champions League football next season.
