“I will not retire” : Wenger

Arsene Wenger is having a going through a recent managerial turmoil. The most successful Gunners manager is under the axe and fans desperately want him to step down. Arsenal are having a terrible run of form this season. Recently they were humiliated by in the Champions League. After four defeats in five games, Arsenal have slipped to the sixth position in the league.

The fans want him to respectfully step down and pave the way for a new manager. And such protests having been growing stronger as each game passes by. At first, only a few supporters were against him while a fair amount of them stood by their manager. But as time passes by more and more people are joining the “Wenger Out” bandwagon.

The Gunners Board, on the other hand, are standing by their long term manager. And news is afloat that they will provide Wenger with a new contract at the end of the summer. Arsenal fans are furious as they feel that Wenger has lost the hunger to fight at the top level. And this attitude is rubbing onto his squad as well.

But Wenger has been firm in his decisions and claim that wants to manage Arsenal in the coming seasons. “I will not retire. Retiring is for young people. For old people, retirement is dying.” claimed Wenger. This might be a jibe at Pep Guardiola’s comments who recently said that he was looking ahead to an early retirement.

Wenger has been at the helm of the North London club for 21st years now and he says that he is still hungry. Many people also feel that Wenger might be after Sir Alex’s elusive managerial record.

Wenger has stood firm to the fact that he is not going anywhere and will be present at Arsenal next season. That fans also feel that if Wenger manages to secure a fourth place finish then he will definitely be given a new contract in the summer. They feel that it is time to move on to a newer generation in order to bring success to the club.

Only time will tell if Wenger remains at Arsenal or not. But this Sunday’s match against Man City will truly be an acid test for both him and his side.
