Arsenal kicked off their campaign with an embarrassing 2-0 loss at the hands of Brentford and according to Ian Wright, the reason for the loss was plain and simple.

As the Gunners went down away from home, the images of a distraught Ian Wright were flashing on television and after the match, the former Gunners made it pretty clear why the Bees were able to bag all the three points.

He wrote on Twitter: “But for real though. It’s the opening game of the season and you can’t match the intensity?!!!

“You know for months what we gonna be up against! [sic] Pre-match I said we’d be happy with a draw! A draw!! That’s where we are! But to not even match them? Just passing sideways. Kmt [kiss my teeth].

“And take nothing away from Brentford!! Better team. Better plan. Better execution.”

Arsenal had a pretty average summer transfer window so no one is expecting any sort of major top draw performances from them during the 2021/22 season.

But, on opening day, they were facing Brentford, a team who had just gained promotion from the Championship so everyone was expecting them to see this one through without any hiccups.

In the end, it was Brentford, as pointed out by Ian Wright, who showed the more hunger to pick up a win.

Mikel Arteta needs to go back to the drawing back asap but the first thing he needs to do is ask his management to bring in some quality attack-minded players before deadline day.

The likes of Xhaka, Martinelli and Smith Rowe will not be enough to compete for a European spot next season and if they fail to land some top-class signings this month then we might have to see a dejected Ian Wright many a time this campaign.
