Ilkay Gundogan is already back in training while his teammates are holidaying

Ilkay Gundogan moved to Manchester City last summer on the back of a £20 million from Borussia Dortmund.

Many thought that City had pulled out a master stroke and buying Gundogan for just £20 million was nothing sort of a bargain. But his so-called big season in the Premier League was cut short due to an injury. The German tore some crucial ligaments in his right knee during a match against Watford in December. And since then he has been a sitting on the sidelines.

But by the looks of it, the 26-year-old is making every possible effort to make himself fit and available for the next season.

Gundogan is already back on the training ground well before any of his teammates. While most of his Man City counterparts are busy spending time with their loved ones, the German International is sweating it out on the ground.

Gundogan had made only 15 appearances for City in the whole of last season. And he knows very well that he is well short of being match fit. And with the amount of firepower that City are gathering in this transfer window, the 26-year-old fully understands that a place in the starting eleven will not come easy. But the midfielder is ready to fit for his position.

In an interview with City TV, Ilkay Gundogan said, “It is going well. I am training hard.”

“It is not easy to be here on my own, nobody else is here. I started two weeks earlier than the team but I know that it is necessary. I still have to do a lot of work until I am back but I am ready and working hard. I am in a good way.”

“I am just waiting for the team to come back and maybe I am able to join the first bits of every training session — so warm-up stuff, some passing, some tactical stuff. Then hopefully over the next weeks, I will be able to join them for the rest of the training sessions and, of course, the games.”
