Man United brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for a transfer fee of around £50 million and the right-back put in a fine shift during his debut vs Chelsea.
The 21-year-old made a number of fine tackles during the match and according to Paul Parker, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a better right-back than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was easily the best player in his position last season but according to Parker, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is defensively more strong than his Liverpool counterpart.
Parker told the WeAreTheBusbyBoys podcast: “I’ve said it many times, I watched him often last year, I just like what he does.
“People talk about the lad at Liverpool [Alexander-Arnold] but he can’t defend like Wan-Bissaka, whose defending and positioning is very good. He wants to defend, he loves it.
“And every time he won a tackle [in United’s 4-0 win over Chelsea] there was no doubt he won it cleanly. You would think he had been there years.
“I’m judging him as a defender. He is the best right-back in the Premier League.”
While Alexander-Arnold might be miles ahead when it comes to attacking capabilities but Aaron Wan-Bissaka is more superior when it comes to defensive responsibilities.
As per Whoscored, the new Man United player made 3.7 tackles per game last season for Crystal Palace while Alexander-Arnold managed only 2.1.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka also made 2.4 interceptions per match as compared to Arnold’s 1.2.
So it’s pretty clear that Man United have made the right investment by bringing Bissaka to the club but what remains to be seen is how the youngster copes up with pressure at playing such a huge club.
On the other hand, Alexander-Arnold has already established himself as a regular under Jurgen Klopp and he is easily one of the best right-backs in Europe when going forward.
