Chelsea have decided to let Billy Gilmour move out on loan once again and Rangers are one of the favourites to sign him up, as per TEAMtalk.

The midfielder burst into the Chelsea first-team two seasons ago but last campaign he was sent out on loan to Norwich City to get more game time. That loan deal has unfortunately not worked out well for him as he’s played only 1704 minutes in the Premier League this season.

He will return to Chelsea in the summer but the Blues seems to have decided that he is not ready to climb up to the first team again which is why Tuchel is planning to send him out on loan for the 22/23 season.

Will Rangers be able to get their hands on Billy Gilmour?

Gilmour was a youth player at Ibrox before he went on to join Chelsea in 2017 so he is very much familiar with the setup at Ibrox.

Once Chelsea puts him back on the market several other Premier League sides will want him on a loan spell as well but he might choose a different path this time around.

Playing in the English top division has clearly not worked out for him so Billy Gilmour might opt to take a step down and move back to Scotland. He will very easily get into the Rangers’ first XI so playing uninterrupted games will not be an issue for him next season.

Chelsea will obviously want to keep him close to home but if the midfielder wishes to lead across the border then the Blues are not likely to cause an obstruction. Before his loan move, we think the London side will make him sign a new deal because his current deal with the club expires in 2023.

Do Rangers FC need a player like Billy Gilmour?

In his breakthrough season in 2019/20, Billy Gilmour showed a lot of promise so the talent is definitely there in the youngster and since Giovanni van Bronckhorst is going to lose several players in the summer, someone like him can be the ideal replacement.

The Rangers manager is expected to lose players like Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent, Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey so he has to go for an overhaul.

A player of his talent will work wonders for Rangers next season and if they can move into the Champions League then Billy Gilmour can become even handier.
