Barcelona have been locked in talks with RB Leipzig in the hopes of signing midfielder Dani Olmo and multiple reports are claiming that the Catalans are very close to securing the transfer.

Dani Olmo started in his youth career with FC Barcelona and since 2020, the midfielder has been with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. And in these four years, he has played 148 games for the club, providing 63 goal contributions.

Nico Williams has been the transfer priority for Barcelona this season but if everything goes according to plan then Deco might be able to announce Dani Olmo before his fellow Spanish teammate.

According to the gossip, Barcelona have agreed on personal terms with Dani Olmo as the Spanish international has agreed to a six-year deal but the sailing might not be smooth just yet because there are still fears amidst the Barcelona camp that Manchester City will make a late move. Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of the midfielder and the reigning Premier League champions have been linked with Olmo for several months.

Will MCFC challenge Barca for Dani Olmo?

According to Graeme Bailey of HITC, Olmo’s representatives have informed Man City that the midfielder has agreed personal terms with Barcelona. and this is probably in the hope that City will now try and make a concrete move.

Even though Manchester City have been constantly linked with Dani Olmo they are yet to make any sort of serious moves. However, this could all change now that Barcelona have covered considerable ground.

Gundogan has left, Bernardo Silva might be on his way out, Julian Alvarez has handed in a transfer request and very soon, Kevin De Bruyne could also be leaving for the Saudi Pro League so in such a scenario, the Leipzig midfielder could turn out to be a very important signing for Guardiola and his long-term plans.

Apart from Barcelona and MCFC, clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal have also shown interest in Dani Olmo but since Barca are the only club who have made an official approach, it’s hardly a surprise that Olmo has agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants.

However, since Man City do need a new No 10 in their squad, there’s still a major chance that they will make a late offer to destroy Barcelona’s plans. Barcelona will prefer to wrap things up before MCFC can make up their mind but they will have to wait patiently to see if RB Leipzig agree to their current offer of €55 million plus €7 million in add-ons.

The €55 million up-front payment is very close to what Leipzig have been demanding for their star midfielder(€60m) but the German side knows very well that Man City are also interested in Dani Olmo meaning there’s every chance that they will take their own sweet time to come to a final decision.
