Arsenal are about to bring in centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes from Ligue 1 side Lille and according to Paul Merson, the Gunners manager is pulling out all the right moves this summer.
A number of top European clubs were interested in signing Gabriel Magalhaes this transfer window but it looks like the Gunners have beaten them all in the transfer race.
Merson wrote for Daily Star: “If Arsenal sign Gabriel Magalhaes I think it’s a big statement because of all the other clubs that were after him.
“If Arsenal have managed to get him in without having Champions League football to offer, I think that’s huge.
“I like what Mikel Arteta is doing. But there are plenty of teams around them getting better as well. Chelsea have bought amazingly well. They are going to close the gap on Liverpool next season.
“It could be one of the tightest league title races in a long time. But Arsenal have a long way to go to get to that level.”
Gabriel Magalhaes has been one of the most sought after defenders in world football and he could be the perfect addition to the Gunners defensive line for the upcoming season.
During the 2019/20 campaign, the 22-year-old featured in 24 Ligue 1 matches and he is touted to be the ideal long-term partner to William Saliba at the Emirates club.
