Harry Maguire was recently arrested after a fight broke out while he was on holiday in Mykonos over claims his sister was injected with a suspected “rape drug”.

The Man United defender was given a 21-month suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery.

And due to this incident, many rumours have been claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might opt to take away the captain’s armband from the centre-back and hand it to someone else next season.

But according to Sky Sports’ James Cooper, the Red Devils have chosen to stick with Harry Maguire during this testing time.

He told: “With England’s decision, it reflects dialogue between Gareth Southgate, Harry Maguire and Manchester United and it was taken as the right reason to take him out of the firing line.

“It gives him and Manchester United plenty of time to work out what they want to do in terms of the captaincy.

“There is no suggestion that Harry Maguire will have the captaincy taken from him. What’s been abundantly clear is Manchester United are backing their man.

“Manchester United have been as supportive as any club could possibly be in these circumstances.”

England manager Gareth Southgate has not been so lenient though since he has chosen to withdraw the defender from the Three Lions squad.

Southgate said in a statement: “In light of this evening’s developments, I can confirm I have withdrawn Harry Maguire from the England squad for the matches against Iceland and Denmark.

“As I said earlier today, I reserved the right to review the situation. Having spoken to Manchester United and the player, I have made this decision in the best interests of all parties and with consideration of the impact on our preparations for next week.”
