Premiership sides Celtic and Rangers FC are keen to sign Peterborough United’s 24-year-old forward Ivan Toney, as per multiple reports.

And now according to Football Insider, the Northampton-born lad has told his close associates that he wishes to leave in the summer transfer window.

The report claims: “Rangers, Celtic and West Brom target Ivan Toney has made it clear he wants a transfer this summer, Football Insider understands.

“The in-demand striker has told his club Peterborough United as well as friends he wants to play at a higher level as he eyes the biggest move of his career.

“New York Red Bulls have also tabled a bid of £4million for Toney that Posh director of football Barry Fry revealed was turned down flat.”

This is great news for Rangers FC who have been termed as one of the favourites to sign Ivan Toney this summer from the Posh.

But now all of a sudden, the tables seem to have turned as many pundits think Celtic could close this deal before anyone else, thanks to Gavin Strachan.

Strachan was appointed as Celtic’s first-team coach recently and the 41-year-old was working as the assistant manager to Darren Ferguson at Peterborough United.

And owing to his close association with the centre-forward, there’s a huge buzz amongst the Celtic fans and some experts that their new coach can help convince Ivan Toney to sign for them.

This will be a huge setback for the Gers who have been eyeing a move for the 24-year-old for some time now but the Bhoys will only try and sign him if they lose Odsonne Edouard in a summer transfer.

Until that happens, Gerrard still has time to try and wrap up the deal for Ivan Toney.
