Erik ten Hag wishes to rebuild Man United with this midfield in the first XI: Is the boss taking a gamble?

According to Jonathan Shrager, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to give midfielder James Garner a chance to prove his worth during the pre-season camp.

James Garner is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and the midfielder has really come off age this season. He’s been one of the first names on Forest’s teamsheets and so far he scored four and assisted eight goals in 43 league appearances. On Sunday, he will have the chance to put another feather on his cap by helping Forest win at Wembley in the promotion play-offs final.

Shrager is claiming that the new Manchester United manager wants to give James Garner a fair chance and if he can impress during the summer then he might be incorporated into the first-team squad next season.

Can James Garner prove his worth next season?

James Garner has been a class apart for the Championship club and his performances this season has ignited the interest of several clubs. Teams such as Southampton want to bring him on board for the 2022/23 season.

Man United’s midfield has been a total mess this season and with players like Pogba and Matic set to leave, there will a lot of space for the manager to incorporate the 21-year-old.

Garner can play in defensive as well as in attacking midfield so he can be a major asset next season but we think it’s still too early to bring him into the senior side.

Ten Hag is a fan of young talents but for the immediate future, he needs to sign someone who’s world-class and dependable. Right now, players like Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips or Frenkie de Jong should be the priority for Man United.

James Garner can be a very good backup midfielder next season but it will be massively unfair to him after the kind of season he’s had with Forest. It will be best for all parties if ETH sends the academy lad out on yet another loan spell and during this time, he sorts out his squad and his tactics with the current bunch of players.
