Two journalists are claiming that West Ham United are not likely to sign this midfielder: Is he heading to Newcastle?

West Ham United manager David Moyes is interested in signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse but according to multiple journalists, this deal is not likely to happen.

Firstly, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that the Hammers will find it really difficult to sign the 27-year-old midfielder.

He said: “Central midfield, they do want to sign a player in that position and there is long-standing interest in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

“West Ham are aware of how difficult this will be to get done. Let’s see if they continue talks, you can never say never. West Ham look like they will be going for it this summer.”

Journalist Dean Jones has also echoed a similar statement wherein he’s claimed that James Ward-Prowse joining West Ham is not very likely.

He said: “There is definite interest in James Ward-Prowse, but it’s not particularly likely.

“Saints just don’t want to let this guy go and, when that’s the case, you’ve got to pay over the odds to get them out of that club. You don’t normally see West Ham actually doing that. You hear of them entertaining the idea and you hear of them chasing these players, but then they suddenly look elsewhere and sign somebody else for a third of the price.

“There’s no doubt that they like James Ward-Prowse, but I’m not sure that, at this moment in time, they see it as a signing that they’re getting excited about.”

To add to the heartaches, Claret & Hugh are suggesting that the Saints will demand around £70 million for Ward-Prowse this summer – putting him effectively out of reach.

Is James Ward-Prowse going to join Newcastle United if not West Ham?

The £70 million price tag is primarily because Southampton are not interested in selling the midfielder but Newcastle United have also been linked with him and the Saudi-backed club have the finances to pull this transfer off.

However, they have not been spending money like crazy under Eddie Howe so we highly doubt if they will be ready to spend so much money on James Ward-Prowse.

The 27-year-old is a world-class talent but he’s certainly not a £70 million player so Howe is not going to give a go-ahead for this head.
