La Liga side Valencia are keen to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira during the January transfer window, according to Spanish outlet AS.

They claim: “The future of Lucas Torreira may still be to be written in this January market. The Uruguayan still does not have minutes regularly at Atlético and the suitors crowd.

“English sources confirm to AS that there has also been a very important movement from Spain. Valencia, which prioritizes the pivot position, wants Torreira.

“The club is using the intermediation of Arsenal, worried that the Uruguayan will not find the minutes he was looking for at Atlético either.

“They have addressed Edu Gaspar, former che player and current Arsenal sports manager. Mediation is sought from him.”

Will Arsenal allow Lucas Torreira to join Valencia?

Lucas Torreira joined Atletico Madrid on loan last summer in the hopes of playing regular first-team football but things have not gone his way up until now.

During the 2020-21 season, the defensive midfielder has played in only seven league matches for Simeone’s side, scoring one goal.

Arsenal have managed to sign Thomas Partey in the summer plus they already have Granit Xhaka meaning they have no use of Lucas Torreira any more and if Valencia can come up with a decent enough bid then Arteta will be more than happy to part ways with the 24-year-old.

Torreira has three years left on his current deal with the Premier League side so the Gunners are in no hurry to cash in on him but we think if the La Liga side can offer somewhere in the range of £20-30 million, the North London side will sign on the dotted line.

Valencia had initially targeted Spurs man Harry Winks but Jose Mourinho has made it clear that the player is not going anywhere which is why the Spanish side have shifted their focus to Lucas Torreira.
