Barcelona are amongst several clubs who have shown an interest in signing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and if the gossip in South America is anything to go by then the Catalans are now the favourites to land the winger.
Luis Diaz has had an eventful time in England since joining Liverpool from FC Porto in 2022 but after two seasons and 98 games for the club, the Colombian international has been linked with an exit this summer.
According to Colombian journalist Breinner, Diaz’s entourage is set to hold a meeting with Barcelona and the winger is very keen to play at Camp Nou, no matter what happens.
He wrote on X: “Guajiro Luis Fernando DÃaz Marulanda’s entourage will have a meeting this or next week with emissaries from a Spanish club in the United States. The Colombian National Team winger would have everything lined up to leave Liverpool FC and go to La Liga.”
Will Barcelona be able to land Luis Diaz?
The journalist might not have named Barcelona in his post but recently, Diaz’s father had claimed that his son is really keen to play for the Catalans. And if his representatives are about to hold a meeting with a top Spanish side then it has to be with Barcelona.
As good as this may sound for all the Barcelona fans, it’s almost impossible for the club to sign Luis Diaz this summer.
Firstly, Liverpool are still reluctant to offload the 27-year-old but even if Arne Slot does all him to leave, Barcelona will have to be ready to pay around €80-90 million. His current market value is €75 million with three years remaining on his contract so even if Liverpool agree to offload him at a break-even price, Barcelona won’t be able to gather those funds.
Luis Diaz has scored 24 goals along with 13 assists in just 98 games for the Anfield outfit and there’s no doubt that he is going to be a fine addition to the Barca squad. However, Hansi Flick probably does not have the luxury to spend close to €100 million on a left-winger.
Will Liverpool agree to sell the winger if Barcelona can gather the funds?
The Anfield outfit are going to enter a rebuilding phase under their new manager so several players are expected to be booted out in the coming weeks.
Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez have both been linked with an exit but we doubt if the new manager will want to lose all three of his first-choice attackers in one transfer window.
Having said this, Liverpool also have Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota both of whom can play out of the right wing so if Barcelona can(highly doubtful) offer a premium transfer fee then there’s a chance that the Premier League side will sanction a sale.
Barcelona, in this upcoming meeting, will definitely ask Luis Diaz to drop in a transfer request in order to push for a move to Spain but with his deal set to expire in 2027, Liverpool are in no hurry to offload him.
