Ajax have caught the eye of everyone in the footballing world this season and after their 1-0 win over Spurs on Tuesday many are predicting that the Dutch side could go on and win the Champions League.

If Ajax cannot manage to win the Champions League this season then it might be a couple of more years before they once again get back to the top given they are set to lose a number of players during the summer transfer window.

De Jong has already decided to leave the club and join Barcelona at the end of the season and there is also a huge possibility that centre-back Matthijs de Ligt could also be on his way out.

Matthijs de Ligt is only 19 years old but the youngster has already shown that he can mingle with the big boys after his fine performances in Europe this season.

A number of top European clubs are expected to line up outside Ajax’s doors in order to sign the defender but Ajax coach Ronald de Boer has urged him to try and join Liverpool.

“For me, a 19-year-old boy, captain of Ajax, he’s the guy who is next to [Virgil] van Dijk in the [Dutch] national team,” De Boer told talkSPORT.

“For De Ligt, it’s up to him what he wants to do. He has to look for a team that plays attacking football and has time on the ball.

“For me [he can go to] Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, these teams I would advise him to go there.

“Frenkie de Jong went for €75million and that can go up to €85million at Barcelona.

“But in my opinion, De Ligt is further in his qualities and is more ready to make that step than Frenkie de Jong,”

Liverpool already have Virgil Van Dijk who currently is the best defender in the world and if they can manage to acquire the services of Matthijs de Ligt then surely the Reds would be sorted at the back for the next couple of years.

Having said that though, Ajax will surely ask a huge sum of money for Matthijs de Ligt and we are not sure if Liverpool would be willing to spend so much money especially after splashing so much cash last year.
