Mauricio Pochettino Chelsea manager

After searching for a proper replacement for Jose Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur have gone back to Mauricio Pochettino to try and convince him to return to the club.

Spurs saw their brightest stint in the Premier League era under Pochettino but after a really poor first-half in the 2019-20 season, the Argentine was eventually sacked and replaced by Mourinho.

It’s fair to say the North London side have just gone backwards from that point onwards and now with their back against the wall, they want Mauricio Pochettino to take charge for a second stint.

PSG wants Poch to stay in Paris:

Spurs have already made contact with the 49-year-old to come back and some rumours have also claimed  the manager is giving it some serious thought. But in a recent statement, renowned football journalist Guillem Balague has made it clear that Poch’s current club, PSG have no intentions of letting him leave in the summer.

“Returning to England is a goal, but he’s started planning next season with PSG decision makers,” Balague said, as quoted by the BBC.

“PSG have got no intention to let him go and are surprised by the amount of coverage about something they are not contemplating.

“They don’t blame him for not winning the league and have seen big improvements in the squad. They do not expect anything but him starting next season on their bench.”

PSG have fared pretty averagely this season under Mauricio Pochettino which was another season why some people thought that the club might let him leave. But it looks like the owners are willing to give him much more time to settle things out.

The Parisian giants could be tempted to let Mauricio Pochettino leave:

In a totally different view, Football London’s Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has claimed that since managers like Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte are suddenly available in the market, PSG could be tempted to let Mauricio Pochettino join Spurs.

He said: “I don’t probably know too much about PSG fans’ feelings right now. But I’d imagine having been used to winning the league almost constantly, they’re probably not going to be absolutely ecstatic that they didn’t win it this year when it’s something that PSG are kind of expected to win.

“And obviously, there’s a lot of big names now on the managerial market as well, which could tempt the owner of PSG.

“But ultimately, the noises coming out of PSG right now are very clear. He’s not going anywhere, which may well be their stance, it may well be a negotiating stance.”

Obviously, Spurs are struggling to find a new manager which is why they have gone back to Mauricio Pochettino. While the Argentine’s return will be great news for the fans but Daniel Levy cannot let PSG ponder over this decision for too long since he needs a new world-class manager asap just to be able to hold onto players like Harry Kane and Son.
