Is Mikel Arteta’s job on the line after Arsenal’s loss to Liverpool?

Arsenal were thrashed at home by Liverpool in the Premier League and after the humiliating 3-0 loss, Jermaine Jens has pointed fingers at manager Mikel Arteta.

The former Spurs man has claimed that Arsenal took the field without any proper tactics in mind and they were all over the place, thereby helping Liverpool dominate the match from the very first whistle.

‘I watched a team today that didn’t believe in the tactics set out by Mikel Arteta, I thought the body language from Arsenal players was poor,’ said Jenas, as quoted by Arsenal.

‘I’m struggling to figure out why you’re playing [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, [Alexandre] Lacazette, [Martin] Odegaard, [Nicolas] Pepe – all these attacking players and not actually playing on the front foot.

‘This pretty much summed it up for me, you’ve got Pepe with his hand in his air asking for it to be kicked up the pitch, but who actually wants the ball?

‘You’ve got Odegaard in a good position behind Fabinho, slide that ball forward, get in the pocket, but they didn’t have any urgency to get on the ball or help the person on the ball. I imagine Arsenal fans are sick of this now.’

After this loss, Arsenal are almost certain of missing out on a top-four finish this season and if they don’t win the Europa League then their chances of even being in Europe might be in jeopardy.

Suddenly, a lot of Arsenal fans have come out to voice their concerns over the little to no progress their side have made under Mikel Arteta and many of them want the Spaniard out without any further delay.

But according to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney(speaking to Sky Sports), this ain’t happening any time soon since the club’s board are very much backing Arteta’s rebuilding process.

The North London side are currently ninth on the league table and they only have the Europa League to look forward to now. If they don’t manage to win the UEL then they miss out on Champions League football next season and if they can’t get back to winning ways in the league then they will have to fight for only the cup competitions next season, like the mediocre teams.
