Arsenal paid £72 million to Lille for the services of Nicolas Pepe last summer but according to Jermaine Jenas, the Ivorian international has been a big waste of money.

Jenas told Radio 5 Live, as quoted by HITC: “Oh god. yeah. That’s up there with Joelinton, I think. It’s the money, it’s as simple as that.

“The amount of money that has been spent on him in terms of what he has delivered and what you can actually see.

“Everyone can have a bad season. I don’t remember it but a lot of people talk about Henry’s first season at Arsenal and that it didn’t quite go for him straight away.

“And they kind of lean on that quite a lot in terms of these types of signings in that he will get it right.

“I have just not seen it with this particular player. So that business there looks bad business, at the minute.”

Is Nicolas Pepe really a poor signing?

Last season, Nicolas Pepe scored 22 and assisted 11 goals in just 38 matches for Lille and at that point in time paying such a steep price for the winger seemed to be justified.

But this season, he has seen a massive dip in form managing to score only five goals in 31 Premier League games for the Gunners.

Nicolas Pepe has clearly not been able to adjust to the demands of the Premier League and there have been whispers that Mikel Arteta is looking to offload him in the summer.

While we are confident the manager will not do such a thing but Pepe needs to buckle up or he will end up losing his spot to youngsters like Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli.
