Celtic receive a major boost in holding onto their star player: Bad news for two PL clubs?

Celtic manager Neil Lennon recently had claimed that his club are currently in talks with Odsonne Edouard over the signing of a new deal, despite a number of big Premier League clubs wanting to sign him in the summer.

“There are discussions at the minute with his [Edouard’s] representatives,” said the Celtic boss, as per Goal. “Ultimately he’s a player we want around. He’s a fantastic player. He’s really blossomed over the last couple of seasons.

“He had a magnificent season this year and we want to keep him. It’s as simple as that. We’re doing everything we can to keep him here for at least another season anyway.

“I think he is [happy]. I think he’s got a fantastic relationship certainly with me and my backroom team and his team-mates. You can see how much the supporters appreciate him as well. I think that’s reciprocated.

“He’s grown into a top-class striker. Of course, there is going to be speculation around a player of that quality. But we’re comfortable at the minute with the position we’re in with him.”

And now, as per Football Insider, the Bhoys have received a major boost as Odsonne Edouard is seemingly ready to put pen on paper to the new deal at the club.

The report claims: “Odsonne Edouard has sensationally indicated to Celtic chiefs he is willing to sign a new contract this summer and spearhead the club’s 10-in-a-row pursuit, Football Insider has learned.

“A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Edouard has revealed in transfer discussions with club chiefs that he may turn his back on a move down south to pen a bumper new deal.”

Will Odosonne Edouard remain at Celtic?

The possibility of signing a new deal will be great news for Celtic but we do not think the Bhoys will be able to hold onto the centre-forward if clubs like Arsenal or Crystal Palace come calling.

Both these PL sides have shown a keen interest in signing Odsonne Edouard and if they are willing to spend somewhere around £35-40 million then Neil Lennon will have no other option but to let him leave.

But what remains to be seen is if Palace or Arsenal are willing to spend so much money in the transfer market this summer or not.

The Frenchman has scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists in just 27 Premiership matches this season so clearly Celtic are not asking for too much in exchange. But we are not sure of the Gunners or Crystal Palace will be ready to pay such a steep price after such a prolonged lockdown.
