If Celtic FC were to lose Odsonne Edouard to a Premier League side this summer, then there’s every chance that Rangers might end their trophy drought next season, that’s according to Paul Robinson.

The former England international feels Edouard has been the driving force for Celtic over the past two seasons and if the Frenchman does head for greener pastures then Neil Lennon will find it really tough to defend the Premiership title.

Robinson told Football Insider: “The impact that he has had up there, the way that he has played and the goals that he has scored have turned him into a cult hero.

“He has been key to everything that they do. To lose him would leave a huge hole. The Premier League is a great draw. I can see it happening but I would like to see Celtic do everything they can to keep hold of him.

“They will need him if they are to try and win the league again next year. I think he is very, very important to them.

“Rangers will have another go again next season but I think he is the difference between the two sides.”

Is Odsonne Edouard the difference between the two Old Firm sides?

Odsonne Edouard joined the Bhoys in 2018 from PSG and since then he’s been one of the best centre-forwards, not only in Scotland but in the whole of the United Kingdom.

In the 2019-20 season, the 22-year-old had managed to net 27 goals and provide 19 assists in just 45 games across all competitions which is one of the biggest reasons why so many big European clubs want to sign him in the summer.

We kind of agree with Robinson that if the Frenchman does leave, Celtic will stumble a bit and maybe this is the precise chance that Rangers need to win the Premiership title.

But at the same time, Celtic’s scouting system is a well-oiled machine so we are pretty confident, the club will be able to bring in a replacement to Odsonne Edouard without inflicting too much damage to Neil Lennon’s long-term plans.

Also, Rangers FC themselves are in fear of losing Alfredo Morelos and if the Colombian was to head out, the Gers will once again be back to square one next season.
