Are Manchester City at risk of losing this superstar in the summer?

Raheem Sterling Man City

Man City have been in stellar form this season and look all set to win the Premier League title yet again. But according to Alan Shearer, things are not at all rosy for Raheem Sterling right now.

Sterling has been a key figure in the first-team for Man City ever since he moved to the club from Liverpool in 2015. But this season, the England international has seen his importance diminish at the club, especially in the past few weeks. And according to Alan Shearer, the alarm bells have started ringing for the 26-year-old.

The pundit said on BBC, as quoted by MEN: “He’s missed the last three Champions League games, he’s only started four of the last 11 games. When you’re not hitting the heights in this Manchester City team, then you’ve got other players to come in and do the job.

“Look at the job Foden is doing – that’s one of the reasons Sterling isn’t getting in. His numbers aren’t bad this season, nine goals, but they don’t compare to how good he’s been in the past.

“He’s improved his scoring massively, he’s never been a natural, but what he has improved hugely on is his positioning around the six-yard box, the number of times we see him get into that position at the far post.

“There was an interview Pep did after the Southampton game that I think was perhaps aimed at Raheem where he was saying, because he’s got most of his players fit, if they’re not going to be at it, there’s not going to be a place in that team.

“Maybe something was said in the dressing room. He’s got to work hard and earn his chance to get back in the team.”

“It’s a huge challenge for him and that’s what happens at this football club now, if you’re not at it then the manager can leave you out and bring someone else in.”

Pep Guardiola is clearly favouring young Phil Foden over Raheem Sterling right now and it’s quite evident with the fact that Sterling was on the bench for the first leg against Dortmund. And in the second leg, he played only two minutes.

There’s not much Raheem Sterling has done wrong but Phil Foden has been just brilliant whenever he’s started and it’s pretty clear that the youngster is going to be the future at the club.

But, despite the diminished game time, there’s no way that Pep Guardiola is going to sanction the sale of Sterling this summer, especially since he still has two years left on his current deal.
