Chelsea drew their latest Premier League match vs Man United on Sunday and this game was another setback for Tammy Abraham.

The forward was one of the first-choice attackers under Frank Lampard but he’s fallen down the pecking order ever since Thomas Tuchel has taken charge of Chelsea.

The England international overall has been really underwhelming this season, scoring just six goals in 20 Premier League matches so far and on Sunday, the 23-year-old did not even feature in the matchday squad against Manchester United.

Many fans feared that Tammy Abraham might have picked up a late injury but speaking to the press, Tuchel clearly explained why the forward was omitted from the matchday squad.

He said after the match, as per Chelseafc.com: ‘It was about judging all the alternatives we had. We opted for Oli to begin, with Timo on the bench.

‘We had Kai who can play as a number nine. Things are a bit difficult for him, not as easy as they should be, it’s not his fault and he will get our full support, it’s just a decision.

‘He has to do what he does, train well and be in a good mood, and accept he’s a striker for Chelsea so the competition is almost the highest competition. This is what you sign up for, these moments arrive.

‘There is no other answer to accept it and be there tomorrow to fight for his place. I’m sure he will do it.

‘We have a strong squad. We have only Thiago Silva injured. It means you have to take hard decisions. You can only nominate 18 players. It was also a hard decision for Billy Gilmour, because he played very well in the Cup, and has been very strong in training.’

Missing out from the matchday squad will be a real setback for Tammy Abraham and things are not about to get any easier since Chelsea have some really tough opponents coming up.

Next up, the Blues face Liverpool in midweek and then they take on Everton and we don’t think Abraham will be in the starting line-up for either of these two matches.

As far as Man United are concerned, the duo of Maguire and Lindelof had a merry day on Sunday since Olivier Giroud could only offer an ariel threat for Chelsea, something the United centre-backs handled very easily.
