There’s this whole debate about which league is better – the Spanish La Liga or the English Premier League and it’s fair to say that the Spaniard has been making a statement for some seasons now.

Out of the past ten Champions League winners, 7 of them have come from Spain while only once was there an English winner when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to lift the UCL trophy at the end of the 2011-12 season.

The Premier League teams have promised much but delivered very little during the past decade with most of the Premier League outfits crashing out even before the semi-finals.

The trend for the past couple of years has been such that one big team in England has failed to qualify for the Champions League which in turn has squandered the country’s hopes even more.

While the first division in England has gotten tougher but sadly that ferocity has not been replicated in the European tournaments.

So, naturally, when the 2018 FIFA World Cup came along everyone thought that it would be the Spanish league based players who will shine once again.

But it seems that all the winding and grinding in the unpredictable climates of England has made diamonds out of a number of players.

While the Spanish players have been at best-showing mediocrity(apart from a few), the players who ply their trade in the Premier League have been soaring high.

Data shows that the top three players up until the group stages of the World Cup all ply their trade in the top division of England.

The number of is without a doubt Spurs and England striker Harry Kane who has clocked up 5 goals in just two group stage encounters.

The next two best players in the World Cup are Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard who play for Man United and Chelsea respectively.

Hazard and Lukaku has managed to score 6 goals between them in two appearances are are easily one of the pairs to look out for during the knockout stages.

While there are a number of players in the top 10 list who are currently playing in the La Liga but in all fairness they have been the so-called lone wolves failing to make any sort of big impact in the tournament.

So at the biggest stage of all the Premier League is showing what it’s players are capable of. Now they just need to replicate it in the European tournaments.
