Currently, all football in England including the Premier League is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic with the authorities recently claiming that matches will only resume once they get the green light from the government.

And now in a shocking bit of news, Udinese director Pierpaolo Marino who also owns part of Watford has revealed that the Premier League will be announcing the cancellation of the 2019-20 season pretty soon.

‘The Belgian Federation has already sanctioned the end of their league, despite the threats of sanctions from UEFA,’ Marino said via Daily Mail.

‘In England, the Premier League is about to release a similar statement, because the situation there is becoming very, very serious. I frankly just hope we can enjoy football again after the coronavirus.

‘It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we need to get out of this danger zone. I am worried for the next seasons, not the old one.’

This statement is in stark contrast with the recent reports which had been claiming that the authorities are doing all they can to ensure the remaining matches are played and the 2019-20 season is finished in its entirety.

Now though it looks like the Premier League has given up hopes of reviving the current campaign meaning they will most probably accept the table as it currently stands.

And if the comments of UEFA’s president are anything to go by then it will be league leaders Liverpool who will be crowned the champions for the current season.

Ceferin had said: “I see no way for Liverpool to stay untitled. If the championship resumes, they will almost certainly win it.

“Theoretically, it has not yet reached the guaranteed level, but it is practically close.

“However, if it could not be played, it would also be necessary to announce the results in some way and find some key on how the champions should be determined.

“And, of course, again I do not see a scenario in which that would not be Liverpool. I understand that fans will be disappointed if it happens in an empty stadium or even at the green table, but I believe they will win the title one way or another.”

This will surely be happy news for the Liverpool fans but there are a lot of other things at stake including Champions League qualifications and the dreaded allegations. So it will be interesting to see how the Premier League finds a solution to these problems.
