The 2019-20 season has been halted abruptly due to the coronavirus pandemic but various media outlets are already rolling out the end of the season awards due to fears that the campaign might not resume.

Now Sky Sports is the latest addition to this bandwagon after they conducted their Premier League Player of the Season poll this past week.

More than 50,000 fans voted in that pole and there was no doubt that a host of Liverpool players dominated the list with Sadio Mane coming out as the ultimate winner with 33% per cent of the votes.

In fact, Kevin De Bruyne who came third on the list was the only non-Liverpool player who featured on the list.

Here’s how the list for the Premier League Player of the Season looks:

  1. Sadio Mane – Liverpool – 33%

2. Jordan Henderson – Liverpool – 31%

3. Kevin De Bruyne – Man City – 20%

4. Van Dijk – Liverpool – 5%

5. Mo Salah – Liverpool – 2%

Is Mane a worthy winner of the Premier League Player of the Season?

Sadio Mane has been in prime form for Liverpool this season scoring 14 goals and assisting another nine in 26 games for Liverpool but many people feel Kevin De Bruyne should be topping the charts since the Belgian has scored 8 and assisted 16 in the same number of games as Mane despite many pundits claiming that this isn’t the best of De Bruyne’s seasons.

Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports: “There have been some outstanding performances this season. But Kevin De Bruyne has been absolutely outstanding.

“His statistics this year have been his best ever, and if the rest of the City side had been as consistent as him, they’d probably be in contention with Liverpool.”

Some experts have also been amazed at the fact that Mo Salah has made it to the list but someone like Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang has been left out despite the Gabon international scoring 17 goals in 26 Premier League games for the Gunners.

Yes, Liverpool have had a stellar season and are on the brink of winning their maiden Premier League title and we believe that this form has seeped into Sky Sports’ Premier League Player of the Season list.
