Liverpool brought in Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window and everyone thought the Spaniard was going to be the next big sensation in the Premier League.
In Spain and then in Germany, Thiago had built a reputation of being the fulcrum for his side and he was supposed to instantly replicate the same thing in the English top division as well.
Sadly, that has not been the case as right now Liverpool are going through one of their worst phases under manager Jurgen Klopp and according to Richard Keys, Liverpool might have made the wrong signing.
He told beIN Sport, as reported: “Wonderful player, not for Liverpool. Ever since he’s arrived, Liverpool’s whole approach to the game changed
“He changes the energy and the intensity of the team. He’s different to what [Jordan] Henderson is and to what they have.
“What’s he going to add? When Liverpool are at their best, he’s going to get blown away. He’s not going to see the ball, is he?”
During the 2020-21 season, Thiago has played in only 10 Premier League games so far after he had picked up an injury early on in the campaign.
In these 10 matches, Thiago has played only 748 minutes and has failed to assist or score even a single goal for Liverpool.
He’s a great luxury to have when Liverpool are leading in games as he can frustrate the opponent with his movements and short passes. But when Liverpool are chasing a game, the 29-year-old becomes a big liability for Jurgen Klopp.
It’s still early days for the midfielder and he’ll surely be given more time by the Liverpool boss to prove his worth but with the Reds currently 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thiago is dropped to the bench for the next couple of games.
