Thiago Silva playing for Brazil

Kai Havertz has officially arrived at Chelsea, and with that, the Premier League side have spent about £200 million on player transfers this summer but free agent Thiago Silva could be one of the most important players for Lampard next season.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink thinks that the vast experience of Thiago Silva will really be useful for the Chelsea manager who has primarily been brought in to add stability to the defensive line.

“Thiago Silva will bring with him a wealth of experience and know-how. I understand the signing 100 per cent,” the former Chelsea striker told GentingBet, via talkSPORT.

“Obviously, French football is also different than English football which is more demanding so he will have to look after his body especially as they are involved in the Champions League as well.

“But he is a great addition. Chelsea have a lot of young players and he will be there to help them.

“Chelsea have Jorginho who has done that job really, really well. If you look at him during the games when he’s playing, he speaks a lot to the young players.

“I think Thiago Silva will be the same. He’s somebody that the young players can look up to because he’s won a lot.

“He’s played a lot for Brazil – he’s been there and done it. He’s also a very calm person who will help the young players relax.”

Thiago Silva will have a lot to offer in terms of experience and mental strength at the highest levels but Lampard will have to be very mature in how he handles the defender since he will be 36 years old by the end of this month.

The English top division is one of the most demanding leagues in world football and if Thiago Silva is not used tactfully then the Brazilian could very well be spending time in the medical room pretty soon.
