Nat Phillips has just signed a new deal with Liverpool FC but it looks like the club might be planning to offload him really soon.

The defender had played in 17 Premier League games for Liverpool last season which is why Jurgen Klopp seems to have rewarded him with a new deal.

The official statement read: “Nathaniel Phillips has signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool Football Club.

“The centre-back finalised the contract at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday to commit his future to the Reds following a watershed 2020-21 campaign in which he made 20 appearances for the first team.”

But Danny Mills has a totally different take on this claiming that Liverpool have offered him a new deal just so they do not lose him for free in the coming years.

Mills told Football Insider: “It’ll be a bit of that[trying to get a transfer fee].

“That’s the way I look at it. They’re protecting their asset, making sure he could be around for some time.

“Could he break in? Yes, is the answer. But they’ll be looking at it and be thinking ‘We’ll protect our asset, keep him happy, just in case we need him and we’ll go from there’.”

When will Nat Phillips be sold by Liverpool?

Nat Phillips has fallen further down the pecking order at the club after the arrival of Ibrahima Konate this summer and we don’t think he will get any significant game time at Liverpool this time around.

Also, the likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are back to full fitness and Van Dijk has also returned to the fold. This means that Klopp has no use for him now(apart from the spare cup games).

The manager will hopefully assess the situation for the next few months and if the likes of Gomez and Konate can come good then Nat Phillips might be sold during the January transfer window itself.
